Yes, you do have the right for a written notification by law. Contact your local citizens advice bureau and they will get this fact and confirm it in writing. You then produce it to the letting agent. If all fails, change the lock and the owner will have to be notified if a further such visit is made. It is more than likely the owner does not know what's going on.
