Font downloads and MS-DOS?

So I downloaded some fonts off the Web and now I want to be able to use them in things like Microsoft Office Word 2007 and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007. I have a laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, if that changes anything. I don't know how to install them completely, though. I checked online and it kept saying to restart in MS-DOS mode. But when I checked my modes, it wasn't there. I don't know what to do--do I REALLY need MS-DOS to use the fonts I downloaded? If so, how can I get MS-DOS? And if I don't, or I can't get MS-DOS, is there another way to use the fonts? I'd appreciate any help! :)
