Similar game styles needed?

I need some suggestions on recent games, that has the stay up till 3 in the morning type puzzles, like metroid prime, took forever, because you had to backtrack constantly, or zelda where you move through temples to get items, to unlock a certain door. i need a game that will keep me thinking, on and on until we get tired. not just a shoot em up and then done, when you give answer please name the type of game i described, thx
